Players on the Native American University of Northern Colorado intramural basketball team have named themselves the Fightin’ Whities – to satirize the tradition of using Indian mascots for sports teams. It was intended to give racists a taste of their own medicine, so the Native Americans were surprised that white people across the country were greatly amused and are swamping the team with requests for jerseys. Maybe Native American activists need to learn the white man’s sense of humor.
